Let the Sunshine Into Your Gladwin Home

natural light from energy-efficient windows in Farmington Hills homeArchitecture from the 1960s often evokes strong memories of the period—including the music of the era. The 1960s walkout in Deephaven, MN that you see here, certainly brings back memories of one of the most popular songs of the late 60s: The 5th Dimension’s Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In. What does that have to do with the windows in your Gladwin home?

This classic 60s-style home wasn’t always this bright and airy. The owners (who just happen to be builders) wanted to open things up to create magnificent views. They also wanted to improve the home’s energy efficient.

Doors and windows obviously played a big part in making that happen.

Farmington Hills Windows Maximize Natural LightTo create the effect they were after the owners actually inverted the roofline with two large butterfly dormers. That created a two-story wall of windows at the back of the house facing the adjacent lake. They also installed remotely operable windows over the front entry, and pennant windows on the sides of the dormers to bring in additional light and treetop views. The exterior view (which is pretty stunning itself) shows how the back of the home is almost entirely composed of windows.

Of course, with windows playing such a significant role in the redesign and remodeling of the house, getting the right windows was essential. These homeowners/builders chose Marvin products—allowing them to achieve their design and energy goals on schedule and within budget. In fact, the home was awarded a Twin Cities RAVE award for excellence in residential design, and a Minnesota GreenPath award for energy efficiency, indoor air quality, resource management, water management, and site development.

Your Gladwin home may not have the same lake views, but if you’re looking for a way to “let the sunshine in” so that it really lights up—and opens up—your interior, nothing works quite so well as beautiful, energy-efficient windows and doors.
